This newest edition, Edition 10, is outstanding. I have used Professor Bob Moran''s books on global cultural differences, global management, and global critical issues for the past 38 years. His revised editions are always timely and extremely helpful. This new current edition of MANAGING CULTURAL DIFFERENCES does an excellent job in discussing the international issues, and in outlining important skill sets for today''s global managers and leaders. Misquotes another author in the first chapter... not a great start.

I will come back and leave a full review after I''m done but I was surprised by something early on and wanted to leave a review.

In the first chapter (10th ed.), the authors appear to quote Andrew Solomon, as saying: There are also acquired traits, which he refers to as horizontal identities that are different from one''s parents and are acquired from a peer group. Being gay is a horizontal identity as most kids are born of straight parents.

Solomon''s actual words were: Often, however, someone has an inherent or acquired trait that is foreign to his or her parents and must therefore acquire identity from a peer group.

He goes on to discuss how sexuality is not determined by peers but that gay identity is learned from observations and participation outside of an assumed cis straight family.

When reading a textbook published in 2018, it is sad to see antiquated inferences to gayness as a solely acquired trait. I would hope this was an ignorant misquoting of Solomon who himself was gay. If not, omission of the word inherent in the quote is a clear demonstration of bias (ironically, bias is what the book is supposed to help the reader learn to manage....).
